Freddie and Kathryn (Katy) Morehead celebrated their 50-year anniversary on June 6, at The Mill Casino-Hotel in North Bend.
The surprise celebration was organized by their daughter, Susan Kotel-nicki, son Phiip and sister-in-law Dixie Crumrine.
Attending the celebration were their daughter Susan and husband, Steven Kotelnicki, son, Philip and his wife Tammy and children, Mikayla and Kolton.
Katy’s brother Dale and wife Carol Crumrine also attended the celebration.
The wedding cake made by The Mill Casino was decorated with their wedding photo.
Freddie and Katy met a church young adult’s study group in Klamath Falls. Six months later, they were married in the First Presbyterian Church in Klamath Falls on June 7, 1959.
When they met, Freddie was stationed at Kingsley Field in Klamath Falls with the U.S. Air Force as an X-ray technician. Katy was working at Newberry’s Drug Store as a waitress.
Freddie spent 20 years in the Air Force with tours in Japan, England, Florida, Oklahoma and California.
Their daughter Susan was born in Japan and their son Philip was born in Oklahoma.
They have six grandchildren and one granddaughter-in-law.
Katy has worked in the retail and janitorial businesses.
Freddie retired from the Air Force in 1976. He then worked for Consolidated Electrical Wholesale in Klamath Falls and Portland. He retired in 1998 when they moved to Bandon.
A cruise to Alaska is planned for the future.
