Millicent Ruth (Dow) Kenyon
Dec. 21, 1921 - July 14, 2008
A celebration of life will be held for Millicent Ruth (Dow) Kenyon, 86, of Bandon, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Elmira Street in Bandon. Cremation rites were performed by Coos Bay Chapel.
Millicent was born Dec. 21, 1921, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to Gordon and Leona (Kenison) Dow. She died July 14, 2008, in Bandon.
When Millicent was a young girl, her and her siblings became playmates with the Kenyon family children. Unbeknownst to her, both families migrated to Oregon and Millicent and Melvin met again. They were married in 1939 and were married for 65 years before Melvin died. They raised three children and spent many happy times together going camping, fishing and hunting.
She loved to can their garden produce and everything else. She was a good cook and could bake the best chiffon cakes and apple pies that would melt in your mouth. She loved to play cribbage, gin, dominos and Scrabble. She was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and loved the World Series. One of Millicent’s happiest moments was when her and her husband joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church and became baptized. She truly loved the Lord and her church family.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, auntie and friend to all.
Millicent is survived by her children: daughter, Melva and husband, Bill Woodward of Bandon; son, Melvin “Butch” L. Kenyon Jr. and wife, Maryanne of Shasta Lake, Calif.; daughter, Suzan Churchman of Bandon; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way; six great-great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews; and one brother, Warren “Shorty” Dow of Bandon.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2004.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 977 Elmira Ave., Bandon, OR 97411.
