A memorial service for Kurt D. Erichsen, 50, of Coquille will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Bible Baptist Church, 1226 N. Dean St. in Coquille.

Kurt was born May 14, 1958, in Myrtle Point, to Jacob Erick Erichsen and Dannia Faye (Brown) Erichsen of Coquille. He died July 5, 2008, in Eugene.

Kurt was raised on a dairy farm in Riverton, where he started grade school. The family later moved into town. During high school, Kurt lettered in wrestling and football as a manager, he played the trombone and enjoyed being in the marching band. Kurt lived in Coquille his entire life except for some college in Arizona and a short military service in the U.S. Air Force with an honorable discharge. Kurt worked for Wilson-Dunn Glass before becoming a millwright for Roseburg Forest Products, where he worked for more than 22 years, following in the footsteps of his father.

Kurt had many interests in life. He loved to read. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, electronics, golf, Jeeps and Elvis. Kurt was a gun enthusiast, a member of the National Rifle Association and had once been a Hunter Safety Course instructor. Kurt was teaching himself the guitar and played along with friends. Kurt was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church and later became a member of Bible Baptist Church. He and his wife were once in the Christian Motorcycle Association group Rainbow Riders and enjoyed motorcycle trips together. Kurt was proud of his 15 years as a reserve deputy with the Coos County Sheriff's Office. He earned his Ham Radio license and was part of the local Ham Radio Club.

Kurt was in the Civil Air Patrol for a short time with his son. He loved life and met few people he did not like. He had many friends and will be greatly missed.

Kurt is survived by his mother, Dannia Edgley; brother, Matthew of Langley Air Force Base, Va.; sister, Erika of Somerset, Ky.; wife, Tracey; children, Rheann and Nathan of Coquille, Cristina and Nick of Somerset, and Codi of Oroville, Calif. He had two granddaughters and one grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jacob Erick Erichsen.
