Final services were held for Franklin “Mac” Wilson, 90, of Bandon on July 23, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bandon. A luncheon followed at the parish hall. Private interment was at  Holy Trinity Cemetery following the luncheon.

Franklin was born Sept. 30, 1917, to Bessie and Norman Wilson. He was delivered at home by his paternal grandmother. He died July 19, 2008, at home in the loving arms of his wife and daughters.

Franklin went to school in Prosper and graduated from Bandon High School. He lived his youth near the Coquille River helping his father run the Bullards Ferry before the Bullards Bridge was built. He worked at various jobs before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1941. He was a radio mechanic on the airplanes until his honorable discharge in December 1945.

As a young man, Franklin was an avid boxer and was known as “The Pride of Bullards.” He was offered a contract to travel east to become a professional boxer. Franklin married Mary McNeil on April 12, 1947. He worked for the Coos County Road Department from which he retired.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; four daughters, Nancy, Janice, Mary Ann and Debbie; grandchildren, Randy, Michelle, Cristin, DJ, Tressa, Jamila, Elizabeth, Dustin and Jordan; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Bessie; brothers, Charlie and Nedolph; sister, Florence; son-in-law, Terry; and nephew, Norman “Smokey” Wilson.
